Fortnite OG Mode Guide (August 2026)

OG is a separate Fortnite playlist that replays Chapter 1 seasons on the original island. It is not a reskin of current Battle Royale. Guns kick differently, building is simpler, there are no Override consoles, and your Chapter 7 muscle memory will get you killed if you play OG like Reload.

As of August 27, 2026:

• OG Season 9 is live.
• OG Season 9 ends September 2, 2026.
• Chapter 1 Season X is the next OG season after that — the last season of original Chapter 1.

If you only play OG for the pass, treat September 2 as a hard calendar event. Chapter 7 Override continues until early November either way.

What is different from Chapter 7

The important part: you cannot spray-jump the same way. If you main Chapter 7 Zero Build, OG build fights will feel slow and then suddenly lethal because pumps still delete people.

How to land in OG

Chapter 1 POIs punish greed.

• Tilted, Retail, Salty, Pleasant are still the classrooms. Land there if you want fights. Land there if you want to die a lot.
• Edge towns and unnamed houses are how you learn the map without a 1v6 spawn.
• Chests are louder in your head than they are in OG. Open the chest, then leave the building. Camping a roof in OG is how a pump walks up the stairs.

If you are coming from Reload, slow down. OG loot takes longer and the map is bigger relative to mobility.

Loadout for OG (Season 9 / Season X mindset)

A loadout that still works across late Chapter 1:

1. Assault rifle (scar if you find it, AR otherwise)
2. Pump shotgun (the fight winner)
3. SMG or heavy shotgun / sniper depending on what the current OG pool allows
4. Heals (minis + big pot, or slurp)
5. Utility (explosives, extra heals, or a sniper)

Do not carry two snipers. Do not carry six heals and no shotgun. OG players still win with a gray pump if they hit the shot.

Practice the pump in shotgun maps and read shotgun mastery. Building side: advanced building and edit courses.

Building in OG without modern crutches

You do not need current-chapter piece control to win OG pubs. You do need:

• 90s that you can do while being shot.
• A wall-ramp to take a height.
• An edit that lets you pump and reset.
• The discipline to not overbuild and run out of wood.

If your 90s are messy, play Raider-style edit / mechanics maps for 10 minutes, then OG, not the other way around.

Box fighting still exists. It is just slower and the pump range feels different. See box fight fundamentals.

Season 9 → Season X: what to do before September 2

1. Finish OG Pass quests you actually care about. Cosmetics from OG seasons can sit in the locker; unclaimed pass pages do not.
2. Do not spend V-Bucks on OG levels if you will not play before the swap.
3. Screenshot any limited OG shop items you are waiting on. Item Shop is still daily and still not guaranteed to return the next day.
4. After Season X launches, expect map changes, rifts, and more chaotic mid-game. Play two pubs before ranked.

Crew owners: confirm in the lobby that OG Pass is still bundled after the swap. Do not buy a second pass because a YouTube thumbnail said so.

Who should play OG right now

Play OG if you:

• Want the Chapter 1 map and guns.
• Are burned out on Override gimmicks for a night.
• Like building without mantle-spam fights.

Play Chapter 7 instead if you:

• Want Sprites, Override consoles, and the current ranked ecosystem.
• Main Zero Build (OG is a build-forward experience even when a Zero Build OG playlist exists — always check the lobby tiles).
• Are grinding the Override Battle Pass on a deadline.
