Fortnite Drop Spot Selection

Your drop is the only decision you make before other players can shoot you. Most โ€œI have bad luckโ€ streaks are the same three POIs, every game, into a stacked bus.

The four questions

Before the bus even moves, answer:

  1. How many teams do I want to fight in the first two minutes? Zero, one, or โ€œas many as possible.โ€
  2. Do I need a full loadout or just a gun? Ranked usually needs a loadout. Reload often needs a gun.
  3. Where is zone likely to go from this POI? Edge drops need a rotation plan. Center drops need a contest plan.
  4. Can I leave if it is stacked? If the POI has one staircase and no vehicle, it is a trap.

If you cannot answer #4, pick a different POI.

Drop types

Hot drop โ€” named POI, many chests, many teams. Use it to practice fights (pubs, Reload) or when you are already better than the lobby. Do not use it as your only ranked plan.

Warm drop โ€” named POI that is not the first 10 bus exits. One other team is fine. Two is a problem. Three is you leaving.

Edge / unnamed โ€” houses, towers, gas stations. Best for beginners, Zero Build ranked, and anyone who dies first chest 40% of the time.

Season landmark โ€” in Override, Green Hill loops and arcade POIs. Land once to learn. Then stop until the contest rate drops.

Mode-specific advice

Chapter 7 Battle Royale / Override: new POIs are content. Ranked players should have two default drops: a warm named POI and an unnamed backup if the bus path is bad. Consoles are not a drop. You loot first. See Override.

Zero Build: prefer terrain (hills, trees, buildings with two exits). Open squares are death. Guide: Zero Build.

Reload: pick a building, not a district. Respawn does not make a 1v4 off spawn free. Guide: Reload.

OG: Tilted is still Tilted. If you are learning OG, land Pleasant / edge and rotate in. Guide: OG.

Loot path inside a POI

A drop is not a pin. It is a path:

  1. Land on visible loot / roof chest.
  2. Clear one building fully (gun, shells, shields).
  3. Move to the next building away from the bus, not toward more footsteps.
  4. Leave with a loadout. Do not 100% the POI while zone is pulling.

Inventory while you path: loadouts.

When to abandon a drop

Abandon immediately if:

  • Two other squads landed on your roof.
  • You glided too long and someone already has a gun on you.
  • Your teammate landed 150 meters away โ€œfor loot.โ€
  • You hear an Override console fight you are not ready for.

Leaving is a skill. Dying for a chest is not commitment, it is ego.
