Fortnite Landing Contests

A landing contest is the fight that starts before anyone has a loadout. You win it with glider discipline, a gun, and the decision to leave.

Glider

  • Dive at the building, not at the POI label.
  • Open glider as late as your height allows. Early glider is free time for them to loot.
  • Land on the chest or on the floor loot you can see, not on a decorative roof peak.

If you consistently land two seconds after the enemy, you are opening the glider too early or staring at the map.

First item

Priority:

  1. Any gun
  2. Then shotgun / SMG
  3. Then shields

Punching is a real option if you land on them and they missed the gun. Punching is a bad option if they already clicked a pickaxe swing on a chest.

Audio

Land, stop sprinting for a beat, listen. Reload and hot drops are loud; you still hear a chest vs a door.

If you hear two teams, you are not in a 1v1 contest. You are loot for the third. Leave through the back.

Mode notes

Reload: contests happen every game. Practice here. Reload.

Override BR: do not contest Green Hill on week two of the season in ranked unless that is your whole plan. Drop spots.

OG: pumps from floor loot still end contests instantly. OG.

After you win the contest

Heal if tagged, take the shotgun, leave the building. Sitting on the roof waiting for the next bus victim is how the third party farms you.
